CHALLENGE:  In the Philippines, the first highest cause of child illness and the third highest cause of child death is diarrhea.  Globally, every 15 seconds a child dies of water related disease

CHALLENGE:  Springs and groundwater that can provide water for entire villages are sometimes distant and unprotected and/or hard to access.

ASD SOLUTION:  ASD helps design community water systems that create easier access to water for villagers. 

CHALLENGE: Water testing is extremely inaccessible, requiring expensive equipment, can often times be inaccurate and lay people cannot conduct tests. Testing water is one of the most important tools in educating communities of water contamination because often, they don't know they're water is dirty and is the cause of their illness.

CHALLENGE: Lack of wells and distant rivers and other sources create burdens on communities to access water.

Water and Sanitation are deeply interconnected and often lack of or improper sanitation is the cause of contaminated water. Faeces in water is one of the highest causes of diarrhea and other water-related illnesses.

CHALLENGE: Often communities will think that their well runs dry when water is no longer being processed through the pump And no one is trained to fix or maintain the pump.

CHALLENGE: Water has a high risk of contamination if it is an unprotected source. Enclosed water storage is crucial to reduce the risk of water contamination. Often in rural areas surface water is unprotected and likely to be contaminated.

CHALLENGE:  Some simple and affordable water treatments don't have high efficiency rates and/or cannot supply enough water to provide washing, drinking, and cooking for an entire household.
