Amalhubi is a region that was returned to the indigenous peoples who were relocated after the colonization of South Africa. They returned back to their homeland and began to resettle back into land that had been dilapidated through negligence.

Local Water Situation:

Water is sourced through shallow wells, open water sources and rainwater harvesting. Most sources of water other than the rainwater harvesting have high risk of fecal contamination due to the lack of sanitation facilities and a majority of the community practices open defecation.

A Single Drop's Role:

The Sizani Ngubane and Gugu Hadebe of the Rural Women's Movement were a team chosen to participate in the African Women and Water Conference in Nairobi in June 2008. At this conference, 15 teams (30 women) came together to an innovative conference that transferred appropriate water technologies and organizational planning tools to help them develop effective water and sustainable programs in their communities. ASD's commitment was to continue to support the women by on the ground follow-up to offer refresher trainings and project planning workshops.
