Only 95km from Zimbabwe, Chimoio is a city that is one of the major trade route stops between the coast of Mozambique to Zimbabwe. This route is believed to be one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the continent of Africa.
Local Water Situation:
In the urban areas, water is accessed from the local water municipality. As you travel just outside into the peri-urban and rural areas, water is accessed from rivers and wells, and most sources are contaminated.
A Single Drop's Role:
In August 2008, ASD Mariah and Gemma, conducted a month-long BioSand Filter Technology Training and comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education Trainer's Training Workshop for female orphaned youth. ASD provides ongoing mentorship through a partnership with Evans Chiyenge from SHIP in Zambia to support the young women to start a BioSand Production Facility and Micro-business.
